BEGINNINGS
As of writing this post in Sep 2023, I have been working game development as a hobby for the past 18 years now. Prior to 2022, I had only ever published two small games however, neither of which can be found on the internet anymore. Using Mark Overmars’s GameMaker software, I started developing as an elementary schooler. After a couple years, I had learned the basic drag-and-drop functionality of the software and started with the basics of coding in GameMaker’s own, simple script called GML. It didn’t take many years that I found myself in the hamster wheel of constantly coming up with new game ideas and abandoning the previous one(s).
Ah, the good old days.

THE MIDDLE YEARS
My projects were mostly top-down or first-person shooter games until the 2010s, when a couple of friends – who still help voice AcroGames’s games today – got me into strategy games. Quickly discovering a deep interest in this genre I previously had shunned, having found it all too complex as compared to shooter games, I started developing my first strategy titles, some of which I worked on for years and still have access to today. If they ever see the light of day, will remain a mystery for now.
RECENT YEARS – COVID-PANDEMIC
For many, without an argument, the Covid-19 years have been a curse. However, while it might be controversial to say out loud, I personally considered the early months of the pandemic a blessing on my part. Here’s why.
I was laid off of work in the first spring of the pandemic due to belonging to a risk group. For the following spring in its entirety, I was at home, and came to a realization. If I ever had time in my hands to seriously develop my games, it would be now. This is when I decided to take matters into my hands and opened up the first social media accounts for AcroGames – my pseudonym as a solo dev. This was soon followed by the first dev log posts for two of my games, The Finnish War and Sotidrokhima – both of which I had worked on for some years already, but now decided to make the first two games to be released as AcroGames. I never intended to make my games paid, as I thought I’d never see the trouble to develop them so thoroughly as to go and ask money for them. The coronavirus pandemic showed me different. With all of the time in my hands all of a sudden, I decided to turn my hobby into some profit.
The Finnish War was released on February 2022, and Sotidrokhima on November of the same year. From here on, games have, and will be released each year by AcroGames.
